Let's change a few details of the story and see how we feel. If Bernie Sanders showed up with a suit that said tax the rich on it. I'd be critical of him and say why are you doing these performances and not out there getting legislation passed? If AOCs intent was to make the discussion about taxing the rich she failed because the conversation is cleary just about her and a dress.

AOC solved it. The rich were just sitting there on their mountains of money until AOC wore that dress. They just had to rethink their whole way life and the part they play in it...........o wait they still have too much money and we're not any closer to taxing the rich. Geeze it almost seems like the whole performance was useless.
