I noted Bjorn from ABBA later mentioning that he had made a mistake in the lyrics of the song The Winner Takes It All when he wrote, "The gods may throw a dice, their minds as cold as ice," as "dice" is actually plural. So I am guessing that singular is a "di" or "die"? Excellent videos!!

Excellent! I knew floccinaucipilification from school and coming from Northern Ireland I was aware of antidisestablishmentarianism ... so good to hear someone bring them out on video!

I also recall an occasion when I was a chef for a Church of England pilgrims' hospice in Israel in the 1990's when one of the young volunteers who was a bit of a cheeky chappie was sitting at the coffee break table and he spat his coffee all over the table when an American elderly lady guest said to him he was full of spunk! Words can have different connotations in different languages. I came across many such hilarious "crossovers" when I learned to read, write & speak Hebrew, which if recounted would make a small pamphlet of its own! And mistakes help us learn! ☺

Loved it. A favourite topic of mine, especially noticeable as a chef when I worked abroad, with differences such as rubbish being garbage, scones being biscuits, biscuits being cookies, baps being buns, buns being cakes (cup cakes) and cakes being gateaux, and of course when cooking by gas, Americans put that in their cars or autos instead of what the Brits call petrol! 👨🍳 Love your videos. They are so educational and entertaining, and with a witty edge. 🤗

Many Christians fight with me concerning the origin of Easter bia Bede and say it means "east" or the old Germanic word for "dawn," which I am not convinced of, but they do defend the non-pagan origin of "Easter" very fiercely! Even the King James Bible used it in the book of Acts when the original text uses the word "Passover" ("Pascha" in Greek, "Pesach" in original Hebrew, which means "to jump, or skip"), but I was glad to see your reference to Bede being trusted. 🐣

@stevekeiretsu Yes, I guess regular usage is what causes language to evolve. I see more usage of referendums and stadiums on news broadcasts over the older referenda & stadia. We sing all kinds of incorrect English in songs that become well-known, such as the Swedish-written Fernando by ABBA who sang "since many years I haven't seen a rifle in your hand," which Bjorn the lyricist afterwards admitted that it was incorrect English, but is sung along by so many people that it becomes kind of 'normal,' a bit like "dig in the Dancing Queen"! 🙃

I worked as a chef in Israel for 10 years so had to read, write and speak Hebrew fluently to read recipes and translate menus etc., and it took a while to master all the gutterals. 👨🍳
