  6.  @jamesharmon3827  I agree. I think we do most things for money. In fact I know the darker side of most wars, as I read excessive amounts of history, and when a president dies often governments files get released to the public in the presidential records act, and a lot of dirt is released. However, as a historian I also read about other countries, and there are three/ four other super powers that want our position on the global stage, China, Iran, Russia, and Saudi Arabia. I would like to think the UN as a whole would vie for the position, but not a country in Europe wants it, or can hold it, and to be fair they dip their fingers deep into civil conflicts for resource gains just as much as we do. We went to war with Vietnam because France told us they wouldn’t back us with Russia. We originally stood on the side of Ho Chi Minh, but we’re forced to fight them for our own support. What you’re not including is that every major power, even the countries that seem the nicest, are also doing those things. We have a global economy, and resources keep our own governments stable, so they fund the side of a conflict that they think will be pro them, and keep control over resources going. America is a beast. Monster even, but there are scarier monsters out there lurking to be the king of the herd. They are weaker than us, but far meaner. The only president in our history that tried to make the world a better place was jimmy Carter. It caused us economically, and he was ousted. Of course opting to pay a fair price or risk losing a deal over morals will cost us, but it pays off for the world, and therefore us in the long run, so it was the only collapse I supported. Oh how I wish the American people would pay attention. The only other presidential candidate I saw on par was Bernie Sanders, but we are moving deeper into our own corruption within both parties. Presently I believe the United States has been trying to goad Iran into a war using the horror Israel is inflicting. It’s working, but slower than I thought. I’m not saying we’re a good guy, and I think that our military hasn’t done anything but make us less safe, and hold down many nations, but we’re sadly the nicer of the options that would take the place when we’re not in it. The people really do have more power than we realize, but we’re reluctant to look at things that make us not live the lives we have. It’s like realizing if you eat Nestle products like DiGorno pizza is tied to global water resource privatization. Bolivia had a civil unrest over it. Nestle has a few different names for their water privatization programs. Or that eating anything but fair trade chocolate means you’re directly involved in real modern day slavery. I pay enough attention that I realize the only way to make real changes is to vote, but most of all vote with your money. Our government has made several major changes over us morally changing our minds over products we deem connected to cruelty here and abroad. I don’t believe anything is black and white, and if you make decisions based on that you find yourself in the old proverb the road to hell is paved in good intentions. The picture is a big one. You can get lost while looking, and the more you look at all history, including in the making, the more we are a weave of humanity not little individual dots. We’re looking at a stage in our overall moral compass of this era. Both governments and populations. My point is , what you’re upset about is not unique to us. The people always move faster than their governments.

  7. they conglomerate their defense, and were just as useful in WWII as the Americans, and every military action we needed them in since. as well right now with Ukraine, they also take the brunt of attack that we don’t. Let’s also look at our own past with social services. We made the most money in our entire history for the common man during the era we tacked the highest, and had the most social services than at any other point. When I say the most money for the common people, I mean the creation of the American dream, so car house for most and affordable education even with the highest taxes and most social services. Clearly tax cuts for the rich and less social services doesn’t equal lower inflation or better pay. As well we pay for the lack of social services in other places. After the 80’s cuts to taxes and social services we saw the largest explosion of homeless since the Great Depression. Of which excessive state and federal taxes come out of. As well our cities had more violence, and crime, which came at an excessive cost to local ordinances. It s as Leo created the second biggest depression since the Great Depression, as well we have never recovered. Inflation was the biggest hike up to that point ever. And it never went down, but with the breakdown of unions all three cost wages to shatter. The trickle down economics originally laid out by Calvin Coolidge, which was the creation of the first Great Depression was the exact same plan laid out by Reagan. Clearly doesn’t work. Let’s get back to social services. We had money in space exploration, new energy technology, more money in public education, more money towards both creation , and maintenance of our infrastructure, all of which were excellent high paying jobs, and it moved to private sector which stoped doing infrastructure pretty much in general, and that’s why rural America is so far behind, as well what we have has been crumbling. Education clear went to hell, homelessness is a major problem country wide, and I can add on to that but not right now, the science and technology for energy production become more about holding on to old technologies we created renewable energy, had the power of the patents for decades ( new technology being the real reason America was great) and gave it up to China to hold the tech down. Now Asia has the head. And we as the general population didn’t save enough on taxes to gain anything when in comparison to the loss. Do we get way way way less for about the same cost. And as far as healthcare we pay more per capita right now than we would if we had free healthcare and we’ve had the math to prove it for decades, so in healthcare we pay more and get in return the number one reason we go bankrupt in America. We also spend a massive amount of tax dollars in our military budget that is excessive cost hikes and missing money, by around a little over half is unaccounted for . They charged 800$ for a coffee mug. No more special than the 10$ ones, because we’re getting ripped off by the government through the military. The pentagon can’t account for 63% 4 trillion dollars missing. So they had to keep a tight audit after that, and every year since they somehow still can’t account for billions each year. That’s not even including the over charging. We have room for better oversight and accountability in our military budget to pay for several of those social services and it wouldn’t cost us anything more than we’re paying. Let alone if they ever actually taxed the rich even at the base rate of regular people. We’d be in the black have room to pay down the national debt and still get more social services for our money. We have both our own history and the present world to see what works and know the costs, we just don’t because after citizens United both parties are purchased by the same rich want to tax, and they are the same people making bank on 800$ coffee mugs, and the same people it benefits not to fix infrastructure etc. we have already done it, and we created the American dream in that era

  10. Because I know most of this history, and more, I used to think we were the worst, and though I think we are for sure the most dangerous country at this point in history, and I think we had some real unstable recent politics, I travel all over the world as a part of my job, and once I was in a cab in Ireland apologizing for my country when the cabby said it could be worse. Looking at all of the countries that vie for the position the United States is the nicest of the options as sad as that may be. I had never thought about what would take over. I know the humanitarian situation in all those countries and he’s right. They are far worse. So I sad what do we do, and i realize we need to get this out there . This as in posts like this one, but I don’t want a misunderstanding, because people go that guy’s evil end their position, and I think the world would be far worse off. However, getting it out there can make changes in here. We need government like Bernie sanders, Jill Stein, Marianne Williamson, and Jimmy Carters to think about the world outside of us too. I’m fine with passing on the torch of world domination, but I am not for it to pass to countries that are worse to its own people, as that’s a sign of how they will respond to the world. It’s always worse for the outside world. This needs to stop, and I believe we are at a precipice of fighting these moral issues, especially as the internet has opened the door to all the information to be exposed to unaware populations. The young are the generation to end it, and right now governments are denying the internet to anyone under 18 in some states. I believe to limit their world view and keep them unaware of what’s out there. I guess that is the fight back to prevent the information from affecting the next generation
