You r 100% correct. Too many people rely on their doctors to be their health advocates....bad bad bad. U must be your own health advocate through education and reading and research, and being proactive instead of reactive.

Strong woman. Not sure what made her think people are somehow exonerated from cancer because they didn't smoke. Cancer is not selective. Anybody can get anything, even a heart attack or stroke or aneurysm. Anything. Whatever time we get is luck. Enjoy life before it's over.

@ynnej665 this is rare, and rarely do doctors, especially GPs, unless they are a damn good doctor, order calcium score test do to a touch of cholesterol. I have never heard of this. That's interesting and also good that the GP would do that because that is called being proactive which too many docs just aren't .

This woman is extremely intelligent and also beautiful. She knew what was up. Doctor's do not normally order the tests that SHOULD be ordered for their patients. She knew her own body. She was her own health advocate, and that is how everyone NEEDS to be. Otherwise...you are not being proactive about what could be happening. If anybody feels like they need to go to a specialist or doctor, do not hesitate and GO.

Its crazy to me that people keep commenting that they never smoked. Smoking is completely NOT the only cause of lung Ca. There are a ton of variables and a ton of causes, even if Smoking is the most common one. It dont matter what anyone does or doesn't do or how "healthy" they are. People need to not think that way. Everybody has cancer cells that can become malignant at ANY point, regardless of how they lived or live. We are all gonna fall ill and die and nothing actually matters in the sense people think. On that note good luck to everyone and have a good life.

So many times it is "Seemingly" healthy people who fall ill. Seemingly being the key word here because NOBODY is actually "healthy." As a medical coder and having researched a ton and even worked in an ED, it comes down to 4 things that will determine one's fate: 1-Age (not him) 2-Genetics (not him most likely) 3-Bad Luck (HIM) 4-Lifestyle (not him) ONLY # 4 can be controlled. The first 3 we're fucked. That is all.

@joefornasiero All the power to u man. Sorry u had to go through it, but this was your journey. My dad had lymphoma but was a bodybuilder and survived. He's nearly 70. My uncle died from pancreatic cancer, but he was morbidly obese and extremely unhealthy. You are a strong person. Thanks for sharing your journey.
