Why do you keep talking about Gulag? At the current time USA has more prisoners than all other countries combined. Even in its' darkest days Gulag had much less prisoners.

USSR sent first man into space in 1961, only 16 years after WW2 that left Russian land in ruins and took lives of 27 millions of people. And even today when American astronauts want to get to space they have to use "Soyuz" rockets, designed in USSR. Keep in mind that USSR ceased to exist almost 30 years ago, which means that level of technology in USSR was about 30 years ahead of USA. And are telling that "socialist economies are falling"?! Bullshit!

@InterestedAmerican You can save a lot of work if you look at modern days. Russia is a capitalist country now, but are there any changes in relationships with other countries? I guess, the answer is NO.

teslagod2003 Stalin wasn't atheist, he studied in Tiflis Seminary for 6 years. Some historians even claim that he received a title of a priest.

@jussim.konttinen4981 One doesn't need to be an atheist to convert churches into cinemas. Religious people often do very bad things, take ISIS for example. Stalin could predict religious conflicts in future (and religion played a huge role in Chechen war), so he did what he thought is the best for his country. But you confuse Stalin's personal beliefs and his political life. Sometimes leaders have to do what they think is the best for their country, but not necessary what they personally believe in.

If you read "Moral Code of the Builder of Communism", then you'll find many similarities with "10 Commandments". 1. Loyalty to Communism, and love of the socialist Motherland and other socialist countries. 2. Conscious work for the good of the society: One who doesn't work, doesn't get to eat. 3. Care for the collective property, as well as the multiplying of this property. 4. High consciousness of the social responsibilities, and intolerance to the violation of the social interests. 5. Collectivism and comradery: All for one and one for all. 6. Humane relationships between human beings: One human being is a friend, a comrade and a brother to another human being. 7. Honesty, ethical cleanliness, as well as simplicity and modesty both in private and public life. 8. Mutual respect in the family, and care for the upbringing of the children. 9. Intolerance to the injustice, social parasitism, unfairness, careerism, and acquisitiveness. 10. Friendship and brotherhood with all the nations of the USSR, intolerance to all racial and national dislike. 11. Intolerance to the enemies of communism, peace and freedom of peoples of the world. 12. Brotherly solidarity to all workers of all countries and nations. As you can see Communism is a kind of religion itself. So even if you can prove that Stalin wasn't Christian, then I can say that he believed in Communism as a religion.

USSR have lost about 50% more soldiers than Germany, which is understandable, because Germany attacked first with great speed and strength. It was nowhere like "throwing people at Germans no matter the cost".
