When I was 17 or 18, (50 years ago) something came up at club I went to about 'greatest threats' As the cold war was in 'full swing' with MAD in place everyone was expecting Soviet Republic At the time I had been learning about Chinese history (I forget why?) I said China, historically and culturally had the long term planning so 'we' should probably learn Mandarin. After all, the place where bureaucracy was invented doesn't need a short term plan when they have always played the long game. I forget who said 'The wheels of government grind exceedingly slowly, but, exceedingly fine' Sounds a bit like something from Mark Twain?

  2.  @jamesalec1321  I was telling people 50 years ago when I was only 17. I used to read a lot before internet came along and made people too lazy to vist a library. Now I'm retired, things are looking pretty grim, particularly since CEO's are so damn greedy and out of touch with reality
