  1. In Britain we would call them pincers rather than pliers. I usually get cheapish drop forged vanadium ones, re-harden jaws and grind them down closer to a flush cut (you don't mind doing things like that when your younger, 'experimenting' and broke) I've been recommending Knipex since 1980's, even the hard wire wire cutters I bought in 1989 are still going strong as I doubt they have ever seen more than 150~160lbs on handles (probably mentioned same when you did lineman pliers?) I bought them because I couldn't snap the handle or break rivet which had happened on a few 'known brands' when gripping (probably got a lot less grip than 40 yeats ago though)
