When I was teaching I saw broken camshafts quite frequently but it was almost always due to bearing caps being fitted in wrong sequence. (and a lack of common sense not pulling cam down evenly) The broken section looked 'clean', a closer examination may show where the crack started? As for 'haters' F*** em why watch if all you want to do is complain? There are an awful lot of 'instant experts' who saw a You Tube video made by someone with excellent camera skills but very little mechanical ability. I had a student who had been a 'machinist' for 27 years and told me it wasn't possible to hone freshly bored cylinders to within two ten-thousandths of an inch (course only called for 0.002"!) I had trained as a precision machinist (3 micron tolerance) and knew even beginners could easily 'hit the mark' (the vast majority did) by paying attention and not rushing things, never in 3 years had anyone totally fail to get withing 0.001" of size (although sometimes took a few hours rather than 15~20 minutes)
