As you mentioned the 'hole in the ozone layer' has science actually come up with an explanation why the 'hole' is significantly larger over Antarctica than over the north pole? The southern hemisphere has never had the industrialisation that the norther hemisphere did. I remember a friends mother (who was from the Falkland Islands) telling us about 'Glare-y days' when they were not allowed to leaver the house until sun went down as it was known (anecdotally) that skin cancer could result from too much exposure (short version)
