Since moving to USA, I can't drink 'regular' cup of coffee and need at least two regular 'European' sized cups. It's no wonder obesity is so prevalent,

LOL, I can still remember part of the Australian jingle they played on British TV in mid~late 1970's when EU was forcing metrication on us. "on the 14th February 1966" along with 'two and a quarter pots of jam weigh about a kilogram'

@thereaction18 I did not know that about Sumerian's. Seems like a really good system to me for anyone not totally reliant on electronic calculators

@roverboat2503 Biggest problem with Florida weather-people, they say humidity is high and 95 will feel like 110. Just don't be so damn cheerful about it as many people don't work in air conditioned offices. Makes me want to 'slap them upside of head'

In the early 2000's I was teaching at a trade school and got the 'I'll never use metric@ multiple times a day for almost 12 years. I guess you never spend 'real money' when buying stuff then? Must be 'fun' working out change in cents? USA has had 'metric' money for ~ 200 years I did a bit of research back then America has been using Meter, Litre and Kilogram since 1864 act of congress although it took more than 30 years for things to standardise, of course, the metric standards were converted to feet, inches etc. The volume measurements in USA are due to imported wine, the wine gallon is smaller than the beer gallon Britain isn't known for being a wine exporter so blame the 'continentals' for short measures. I could go on, but I won't

@pshehan1 I was in middle school in 1970 so I guess your 5~10 years older than me. Not sure how or why I particularly remember the cartoon and jingle I saw 52 years ago?

@aetos198 Judging by the amount of 'thumbs up' your comment has, you may just be right about using and understanding both systems. It's not as if the comment is pinned so many people must read through a lot of replies before getting to it.

@Bob_Adkins Could you please explain the difference between SAE (Society of Automotive Engineer's) and English (actually British) system? The US gallon is based on the French wine gallon and is smaller than the British beer gallon by a substantial amount (3.88 litres vs 4.54 litres) I was taught to use 1/128" calipers as well as 0.001" calipers although from 1975 until 2000 I never used 128th's until I started teaching at a trade school in USA
