I still do collect stamps and coins, but I intentionally choose not to get them off the Internet to preserve the treasure hunt. I want my collection to have a story behind them. I may not remember them 100%, but at the very least I should be able to tell you how I got them or who I got them from.

It has never left my playlist since I got my first portable music player back in 2003 though...

In some way, it's also a reminder of how they stole our youth with the stagnation that they have imposed on us and are not content with us not progressing. And that's what I hate most about the faux retro aesthetic. Instead of a bright future that we want to imagine, they steal our past which never was and repackage it while the clock ticks on world issues that we need to solve NOW.

@carolinelong9652 Honestly this makes me appreciate my parents even more. They chose to take things the hard way by going all conventional even though we live in a port city but we really learnt a lot when we travelled and it also helped us cultivate curiosity for other cultures which remains helpful to this day.

@scarlettdamante4945 The reputation was ubiquitous, even in South East Asia where I live in. My father's friend even made a humorous presentation back in the late 70s when they were in polytechnic where he said that the best thing about getting a Japanese car is that you don't need to fix it if you crash it, just trash it and buy a new one and you will still be ahead of the guy who bought the German or American car. That being said Japan did invest a lot into South East Asia so a lot of Japanese brands did their manufacturing in the region before offshoring was cool. You still see Seiko watches being made in Malaysia and Singapore for example.
