@BVonBuescher : I'm very sad that the Kurds didn't get their own country in 1920, but what kind of division would you have suggested? Wars are expensive in human life and materials, so the victors should take advantage of deciding what happens with the land. It makes sense to give the Jewish people control of a tiny 1% of the carved-up Ottoman Middle East land, as they are the indigenous people and helped the British win WWI. Israel also has great strategic and ideological value to the Judea-Christian west. Maybe Lebanon for the Maronite Christians was a good idea at the time? I don't know how else Syria, Iraq and Jordan should have been divided. If they'd been kept as one country, that might have been too powerful. What's a better idea?
