I have wonderful memories of Prince Philip from 1970 when I worked on the British Royal Family's month-long tour of New Zealand. I was presented to Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh twice. It is lovely to remember Prince Philip in this way, particularly as I'm currently in the company of English people who have little or no regard for tradition and service. Thank you Freddie.

@Captain_MonsterFart : I was seconded to work as Junior Secretary in a specially created office of the NZ government which organised the 1970 Royal Visit over a period of about 18 months. We were a group of about 22 full-time workers, which included police, logistics, protocol, and military officers. We were presented to The Queen and The Duke on arrival and at the conclusion of the visit for them to say thank you to us. Another memorable thing was being invited on board The Royal Yacht Britannia in Wellington to drink gin and tonics with the Queen's administration team. And we travelled around the country staying in the same hotels so there was some opportunity for informal mixing between both teams. I didn't get to meet Prince Charles or Princess Anne though, because they were following a slightly different schedule to HM The Queen. Up to the time of the tour I didn't tell my friends what I was working on because it wasn't popular to be a Royalist. But when I saw the positive impact that the Royal Visit had on the people of New Zealand I was convinced that our tradition of monarchy was a good thing overall.
