I stayed in a Kenyan border town, Moyale, for a month, after travelling in Ethiopia for three months in 2013. The contrast in culture was very noticeable, and I was pleasantly surprised to have a few Kenyans say to me "thank goodness Kenya was colonised by the British because we are way ahead of other countries like Ethiopia, and those colonised by France and Belgium". They particularly liked speaking English, and the implementation of English law and administration systems.

What a stupid comment: "This is not really anything particularly to do with Islam." The CULT of Islam has a verse in the Qur'an telling Muslims to 'smite the necks of the unbelievers' [47:4]. How else would you expect a devout Muslim to interpret that?

I came across an African community in Karnataka, India once. It was a pleasant shock to see their unique blend of African ethnicity and Indian culture.

@Bezart34 : It seems she moved the lady's hair aside to see her name badge!!! Have UK people have become so intolerant of the 80+ age group?
26
You ask "Why is Islam singled out in this way for disapprobation?" The Qur'an is said to be the eternal, immutable, uncreated word of Allah which commands Muslims to practice warfare against the Unbeliever. Other scriptures don't have anything like this. People might profess to a faith, but if their founder wasn't violent and their scriptures don't contain commands to "kill and be killed" for Allah [Qur'an 9:111], then it's a very different concept altogether.

Please do NOT equate Russell Brand with Andrew Tate!!! They are accused of totally different things where females are concerned. Russell has also cleaned his act up whilst acknowledging his bad traits of the past.

All believing Muslims are ‘obligated’ to work towards living under an Islamic Caliphate. Some Muslims are more obvious in their expression of this struggle (jihad), but others remain quiet until the time is right. Of course a huge proportion of people born into Muslim families don’t really care, and the number of these ‘cultural’ Muslims might be growing, so that gives me hope. But things can change very quickly in today’s world.

Denmark is doing what Australia has sometimes done, give temporary residence permits then offer good incentives to return home. It's very wise. I worked voluntarily with illegal refugees (boat people) from Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan in 2001, some of whom have now gone back to their countries. Most of the men (there were no women) quite obviously disliked my spirit of independence and freedom, though they had no trouble in accepting my help to learn English and pass tests so they could be taxi drivers in Melbourne. Their values are not compatible with ours.

Repatriation is probably only possible for those who left unsafe countries due to civil war or invasion. Once the country is relatively safe again, some refugees are happy to accept repatriation in order to rejoin their communities and help rebuild their war-torn country. In the early 2000s I worked with Afghani refugees and some of them were happy to return to Afghanistan from Australia. No 'economic migrant' would ever accept voluntarily accept repatriation.

My criticism of Islam is mostly with its horrible rights for women and children. Female child marriage, a man permitted to have four wives under Sharia, inequality in divorce (and if she entered into a Nikah ceremony and not a civil marriage, then she doesn't have recourse to a UK civil court ruling), a man permitted to beat his wife if he 'fears her disobedience', for a few examples. It's the general theme of men being in control of their women who carry the family's 'honour' that bothers me. I don't know how Muslim women in the west still accept this.
11
I did all I could to hasten my daughter's marriage so she would have a child. Otherwise she would now be like so many of her female friends in their mid-40s who regret not having a baby. Motherhood is the hardest yet most rewarding thing that I've done.

We’ve moved out of the ‘masculine’ energy of the 1 and 9 and into the ‘feminine’ energy of the 2000s. Expect more diplomacy, peace-making, sensitivity, harmony and polite talk. I’m not sure that those born in the 1900s will enjoy the change too much. I’m already a bit sad about it. Inventiveness, independence and trailblazing type behaviour may also taper off.
8
The vast majority of sexual assaults never get reported unless the victims feel SAFE. It’s possible they now feel that they will be heard so it’s worth coming forward.
7
Sounds a bit similar to what happened in India's Kashmir region.
6
Bad things happen in Catholicism and other religions, but they are not sanctioned by those religions and can be processed under rule of law. There's more than enough in the scriptures of the other ideology to see that men forming rape gangs which target young girls, either in the West or Middle East, know that they stand on firm ideological ground.

I’m a people person. I enjoy exploring other cultures and beliefs. I grew up on a farm in New Zealand and was happy to escape that life.

@williamtell6750 : It seems that at least one Buddhist ruler did have a harem. "Ashoka, the emperor of the Mauryan Dynasty in India, kept a harem of around 500 women, all of whom were under strict rules of seclusion and etiquette." I haven't had time to double-check this but maybe it's true? I think many Hindu rulers also had multiple wives and harems.
6
@omodiagbedominicedeoghon4607 : So you mean that these Kenyan business people live in a kind of Stockholm Syndrome? That they had no choice but to love the systems of their colonisers, whether they saw value in those systems or not? I understand what you are getting at, but I still think you come close to exhibiting the soft bigotry of low expectations, both of my experiences in Kenya and of the Kenyan business men that I interacted with.
5
Exactly!!! There’s only one set of scriptures and one warlord prophet. Those who are not openly pushing for #subjugation are just giving cover to those who are.

@HELL-BENT74 : I've spent many months in Kashmir and the local Muslims have told me how it was before and after the Islamic fundamentalist movement reached Srinagar. They used to go to the movies and do all of the same things that people did in other cities in India. Then Muslims started informing on each other and young people were found drowned or missing if they'd been suspected of 'misbehaving'. Shia Muslims lived in fear, and Ahmadiyya Muslims had to be protected, as they are minorities in a Sunni Muslim region. I've also spent months in Lahore and North Pakistan. It's the same story everywhere. Movie theatres are blown up, and there has to be very high security at minority mosques. As soon as the Islamic☪ fundamentalists started preaching about the obligations of #jihad (Islamic 'struggle' in the way of Allah), the whole place changed. Some Muslims love it, and some don't love it.
5
Why not offer temporary residence permits (like Australia does) until things become safe for them to be repatriated to Afghanistan? Money would be better spent on resettling them in a country that shares their own 'cultural values'.
5
In “the cause of Islamism”. Why not just “Islam”?☪️ Until we give it the proper name, we’ll never defeat this kind of terrorism.
4
@750triton Does it make it less real for a victim of sexual assault because someone urged them to step forward? There’s safety in numbers...🙄
4
Most women NEVER report being sexually abused. It’s not worth the grief unless you feel there might be public support.
4
@aiswaryabersan7983 : Yes I agree that "harems" were kept by Mughal rulers. However, it seems that many Hindu rulers did have more than one wife, and some also kept "concubines" in addition to their wife/wives. That might not have been what Vedic ideals dictated, but it was the reality especially amongst Rajputs.
4
@omodiagbedominicedeoghon4607 : That sounds very patronising to me!!! These people were businessmen who had travelled to or had sound knowledge of other African countries which had been colonised by France and Belgium. They far preferred the British system of law, education and administration, and the language because of the global benefits it offered. They did know what they were talking about.
3
@evolassunglasses4673 : It's coming to the West too. They tell you what their goal is.
3
Hamas has a war strategy of “human sacrifice”. Islam also rewards those who are k*lled in Holy War. It’s barbaric…🙄
3
Well said. It seems that Simon isn't aware that politics-law is built into Islam, whereas it's not in other religions. You can't separate politics from religion in Islam. There's no separate thing as "political Islam" because ALL Muslims are obligated to struggle to live under Sharia law.
3
@wlk7318 : Thanks! It's nice to see someone else standing up for what is valuable in life.
2
You could also avoid AIDS by using condoms and other safe sex practices, such as staying with one trusted partner.
2
@evolassunglasses4673 : Wars have consequences. Losers of wars that they started don't get to dictate who gets what.
2
@ncooper8438 So she should have submitted and kept quiet because there were rewards?
2
@Must_not_say_that I guess women would be even safer if they didn't go out in public?
2
@Must_not_say_that What is the main issue from your POV? I think it's normal for people to come forward only when they feel that their case will be heard and not covered up by the 'enablers' of the famous (or infamous) perpetrator. We've seen this time and again in the world of entertainment and big business.
2
Which side is Simon loyal to?
2
@kell4674 : Thank you...🙏

I had a Libyan-Egyptian friend who arrived in the UK via Italy and France in around 2004, and he WAS deported because he had been finger-printed in Italy. That was the procedure according to the Dublin Regulation. So I don't think it's correct to say "NOBODY was deported', unless you are talking about a different circumstance to that of my friend.
2
@petersmith5915 : I think he's dead. He had entered the UK through Syria-Turkey with a people smuggling group. When he got the bad news about not being able to have his asylum claim processed in the UK, he started praying and became Islamic in a way I hadn't seen before, and began to wear a Palestinian keffiyeh. He called me a whore and some other nasty things. He did email me a few times from Italy though, telling me he'd got into fights about Palestine, had been back in jail, was in hospital with some broken bones, then I heard nothing. He hasn't updated any social media for years. It made me realise that Islamic indoctrination runs very deep and I'm extremely careful these days.
2
I totally agree with everything you said, especially the last point about being thankful for now having better living conditions than those from where their ancestors originated. More expressions of gratitude and a lot less victimhood would help the world.
2
@KaratGoldGaming : Then maybe the 40 million eligible Black descendants of slavery should be offered reparations on the condition that they return to, and exchange passports for, their likely country of ancestry?
2
So Simon has NO problem with a man having multiple wives in the 21st century? Is marriage and sex with a prepubescent girl OK too? 🙄🤮
2
Exactly! Why are people surprised when Muslims say they want to live under Sharia. It's a fundamental obligation.
2
@robm8809 : I'm totally with you on this, especially as I live mostly in Muslim-majority countries. I just find it easier to begin with the human rights angle. I have Muslims friends who have no idea about what their ideology teaches, but some are slowly waking up so I feel positive about the overall trend.

Very interesting. Thank you for sharing... 🙏

Have white people just given up due to 'wokeness' and political correctness? 🙄
1
Even if there was disinformation in this particular case, when people get news of a horrific stabbing attack they automatically think of who carries out the majority of attacks. MI5 website says "Islamist terrorism is the most significant terrorist threat to the UK by volume". Sadiq Khan should be trying to solve the very real Islamic terrorism problem, not talking like a #victim or trying to bring in laws to hide the facts.
1
@neddyseagoon9601 : The term ‘Islamic fundamentalism’ also rhymes, but a new word had to be invented for Islam to hide the facts. God forbid if it was widely-known that the #fundamentals of Islam include terrorism.
