I stayed in a Kenyan border town, Moyale, for a month, after travelling in Ethiopia for three months in 2013. The contrast in culture was very noticeable, and I was pleasantly surprised to have a few Kenyans say to me "thank goodness Kenya was colonised by the British because we are way ahead of other countries like Ethiopia, and those colonised by France and Belgium". They particularly liked speaking English, and the implementation of English law and administration systems.

@omodiagbedominicedeoghon4607 : So you mean that these Kenyan business people live in a kind of Stockholm Syndrome? That they had no choice but to love the systems of their colonisers, whether they saw value in those systems or not? I understand what you are getting at, but I still think you come close to exhibiting the soft bigotry of low expectations, both of my experiences in Kenya and of the Kenyan business men that I interacted with.

@omodiagbedominicedeoghon4607 : That sounds very patronising to me!!! These people were businessmen who had travelled to or had sound knowledge of other African countries which had been colonised by France and Belgium. They far preferred the British system of law, education and administration, and the language because of the global benefits it offered. They did know what they were talking about.
