I came across an African community in Karnataka, India once. It was a pleasant shock to see their unique blend of African ethnicity and Indian culture.

@williamtell6750 : It seems that at least one Buddhist ruler did have a harem. "Ashoka, the emperor of the Mauryan Dynasty in India, kept a harem of around 500 women, all of whom were under strict rules of seclusion and etiquette." I haven't had time to double-check this but maybe it's true? I think many Hindu rulers also had multiple wives and harems.

@aiswaryabersan7983 : Yes I agree that "harems" were kept by Mughal rulers. However, it seems that many Hindu rulers did have more than one wife, and some also kept "concubines" in addition to their wife/wives. That might not have been what Vedic ideals dictated, but it was the reality especially amongst Rajputs.
