I visited for three months in 2009, and Pakistan seems to be in a far worse situation now. Even the Pakistanis with whom I'm still in contact have become more fundamentalist in their thinking. I'm no longer hopeful of a peaceful or successful outcome. I'm also saddened to see India become rather intolerant under BJP-Modi so I don't know what the solution is.

@Learningram : Maybe you can share a few things that have improved under BJP. Terrorism might have decreased, which is great. But why is India's position on the human freedom index and human development index dropping? Is the judiciary always independent of the government? Have education and health improved at all under BJP?

muslims are not indians. : Yes, I know that India inherited secularism and rule of law from the British, and that separation of religion and state is a Christian concept. However, not all Hindus or minorities in India want #Hindutva rule, so let's see how this goes over the next ten years. And India does seem to be backsliding in ways that are contrary to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that it is currently signed up to.

@AbhiSingh-pt3zi : That action against NGOs was fair enough, especially if there was a lack of financial transparency. But when you deport foreigners who march in solidarity with a human rights cause, I think you are going a bit too far, wouldn't you agree? India is moving towards a totalitarian state. There is now a lack of religious freedom, there are human rights abuses, and suppression of dissent. I find this very sad. And we don't see any increase in living conditions for the groups who are in the economic category of moderate to poor. Only 37.36% of Indian voters chose BJP in the last election, and 33% of eligible voters didn't vote at all, so that's not what I would call widespread support. And now that BJP's power is entrenched it's going to be very difficult to vote them out. That's how dictatorships work🙄.
