CJ seems to conveniently forget that the UN recommendation (not mandated) for a plebiscite was proposed on the condition that Pakistan withdraw completely from occupied Jammu & Kashmir. Pakistan never did that.

@faizanfayaz8978 : It doesn't. But Pakistan's subsequent strategy, to bleed India by a 1000 cuts, makes it very difficult for peace to ever occur in that region.

@faizanfayaz8978 : I agree that today's Indian government is handling Kashmir in an atrocious and probably unconstitutional manner. But I also don't see a solution in the near future. What would you recommend? I would love for Gilgit Balstistan, Azad Kashmir and India Kashmir to be reunited and become an autonomous state under India, but that is just my personal dream as it has amazing tourism potential. Independence is hardly viable when Pakistan and China would likely occupy it immediately, and Pakistan is pretty much a failed state.

@faizanfayaz8978 : I guess you are right, though there are some activists in Gilgit Baltistan who reject the oppressive rule of Pakistan. J&K did have a reasonable amount of autonomy before Narendra Modi enacted that horrible lock-down and removal of rights. As you say, it's a stalemate. I am impressed that you acknowledge an independent Kashmir wouldn't be able to sustain and defend itself. Not many of my Kashmiri friends can see that.
