So why does everywhere I look on the internet say that HAMAS is the acronym for Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiya which in English means Islamic Resistance Movement?

Actions have CONSEQUENCES. I've visited Israel twice. Before I went I sympathised with the so-called 'oppressed Palestinians' but what I saw whilst I travelled around opened my eyes to the reality. The Israelis, including the majority of the two million Arab Israeli citizens who have equal rights, just want to get on with life. The other side wants NO Jewish state of Israel, and NO Jews. The Arabs must give up on this fundamentalist Islamic ideology. Stop taking Quran 2:191 literally... 🙏

@oddassembler : Have you spent much time in Israel or in the Palestinian Territories?

@SalmaShalom : That's all very nice but it's NOT the widely accepted translation of the word in English. Even Islam doesn't translate to peace, which some Muslims would like us to believe. The widely accepted meaning of "Islam" in English is "submission". Mental gymnastics don't overcome the very real problem which is that Islam obligates believers to fight against the Jewish people, and then the whole world, until all humanity submits or is subjugated to the god of Islam.

@SalmaShalom : I'm not interested in religious books or linguistics. I'm a Kaffir who travels in Muslim-majority countries. What Muslims believe these Arabic words mean is all that is important to me. Hamas is clearly a resistance movement, and has nothing to do with peace. They don't want any Palestinian state. They want to annihilate Israel, and restore the Islamic Caliphate with Jerusalem as their capital. Devout Muslims generally agree that Islam means "submission". Here's a scholarly definition of Islam: "First recorded in 1610–20; from Ottoman Turkish islām, from Arabic islām “submission (to God),” from aslama “to surrender, resign oneself, submit oneself (to God's will),” from the Semitic root šlm “to be whole, sound”; akin to Arabic salām and Hebrew shālōm “peace,” from the Semitic noun šalām."

@SalmaShalom : The Jewish people are an ethnoreligious group and nation originating from the Israelites of the ancient Near East, and whose traditional religion is Judaism. Jesus was a Jew. Islam is a fake invented ideology which purports to be superior to Judaism and Christianity. There is no hard evidence of the first 100 years of the standard Islamic narrative which appears to be "full of holes". Islam is both violent and intolerant. Thankfully it is getting weaker now. The growing trend is for people born into a Muslim family to leave Islam, though not all apostates can speak out safely.

@SalmaShalom : Sorry I misspelled the word. I meant "Kafir" or "Kuffar". In English this means infidel, unbeliever, non-Muslim.
1
@SalmaShalom : I'm not interested in languages or linguistics. I'm a pragmatist and I'm interested in how Muslims interpret their scripture TODAY, and what impact that will have on me and on my non-Muslim friends. When a Turkish Muslim calls me a KAFIR, and he explains what he means by using this word, that's all I need to know. I also want to be clear about what 'Islam' means, and it's not 'peace'. And clear about what 'Hamas' means, and it's not a 'peace movement'. It's a 'resistance' movement. Hamas (and the Muslim Brotherhood) want to take back all of Israel. They want to "drive out" the Jews living there [Quran 2:191]. They have stated that their goal is to restore the Islamic Caliphate which was defeated by the Allied Powers in 1918.
1
@SalmaShalom : I'm a Zionist and I'm NOT religious. Zionism is an "indigenous rights" movement. The Jewish people have reconstituted their ancestral homeland after the Allies (British, French, etc) DEFEATED the Ottoman Caliphate in 1918. I would like to see the Kurds and Assyrians having autonomy or control in their land as well...🇮🇱🙏💙
