  1. an additional reason why it is false to claim that america is "monolingual": at least as far as I'm aware, (or at least in my home state of washington), most universities require you to have taken some foreign language classes before they will accept you, whether this be two years of high school foreign language, or two quarters of college foreign language. additionally, many programs want you to take at least 3 quarters of foreign language (such as the math program I plan to transfer into when I transfer to a 4-year university to get my bachelors and such... seeing as I plan to teach at a community college level, going to need to go at least up to a masters degree)

I have a weird habit of picking arguments with sponsorship spots for physical products... so forgive my indulgence here: i have found a much better way to minimize food waste: any leftover perishable ingredients (by which I mean fruits and vegetables) get pickled. any leftovers are food for the week. (I am vegetarian, so I don't need to worry about meat). haven't had to throw out any food since I started pickling my extra stuff. plus it just tastes good having things like pickled fruits on rice, or pickled mushrooms, jalapenos, onions, and tomatoes on toast with cheese.
