after watching this, I think the most likely explanation is that covid-19, as it seems to enjoy doing, underwent a mutation between the initial infection and when it was realized what it was. how long did it take us to get our first sample of the gene, and was that enough time after the initial infection (which seems like it might have been those cases in november 2019, plus a couple extra weeks of asymptomatic infection) for the virus to mutate enough to not be a match for the lab's database? if not, then it not matching the database is a good sign for the lab. if so, then maybe not.
