I think the skeptic made a very important closing point there: if the goal of crypto is to not be reliant on a bank or a government to ensure that the transaction goes through, then why have a system where you need a 3rd party company to act as a middleman (and basically fill the same role as the banks do for normal money) to let you make the transactions in the first place. the answer is quite simple, I think: as much as the idea of not needing a middleman to handle the details sounds good on paper, as long as those details are complex enough to take time to even figure out how to navigate, there will be people who make a profit by speciallizing in how to do it for others, and people willing to pay them a bit of money so that they can get back to the things they actually care about. it seems like crypto is no more independent of the middleman than any other financial system, for the same reason why the normal, non-crypto financial system developed to be the way it is.
