@Hungabrigoo Well it is not hard to understand that if the guy didn't pay his ransom, he would be suicided. Unless you think they were idiots and loved to give their money away. My point is - there was no honor between thieves. If a guy promised to get recaptured for ransom, and didn't, there would have been a threat to his life. Sorry I don't have Hungarian/Bulgarian dictionary handy. I hope a have explained my point of view to the best of my abilities.

@Hungabrigoo ...we never really had any knights in Bulgaria. We had military ranks for 3000 years and we did have some aristocratic titles but not knights.

@Hungabrigoo Oh, we had a "Unia" with the Catholic Church during the Middle Ages, but by that time we already had our own independent church. So the union covered only the crown of the king. It was a form of formal recognition. The border with Byzantium was so heavily contested, we never had much time to sit down and play knights. Plus we had adopted the Byzantine style of district administration because of the frequent change of hands, and the denominations did not go as low as knight. The cavalry was medium, not too heavy, not too light. Sort of like the Bayeux Tapestry. Chain mail and plate armor.

@Hungabrigoo It might surprise you, but the Templars are a very prominent club (according to their own website). They even have dukes and princes as members. I don't know how much of what they are running but their symbols are everywhere in Western Europe. Even the Freemasons have Templar degrees, apparently. Both the Templars and the Freemasons are international or a nation of their own. People will always be concerned about dual loyalties. Congregation in secret invites suspicion.

@david9613-s2l It is better to let oneself be captured than get the assassin's dagger or arrow in the back while wondering about drunk. These people were the scum of the earth, and still are.

@Hungabrigoo A knight was a guy with a big knife, who used it to make a better living for himself. Modern knights are just a honorary titles for distinguished British agents. Obviously they are advancing British interests with their work and they get rewarded with a "Sir" title. The only other modern knights I can think of, are the Templars. They are a Vatican club for Vatican agents. We have one police general who went from the Communist Party straight to the Templars. Very quick and effortless transition. So in general, I don't have much respect for modern knights either.
