  2.  @nickmiller76  Ancient Egypt was so "real", Thales of Miletus had to tell the Greeks about it. They colonised North Africa and ventured deep into to Nubia, but somehow missed it. The background to this myth - Thales was from Anatolia and probably several shades darker than the Balkan natives he was deriding. He wanted to invent a "we wuz kangz" myth to uplift the dark people such as himself. So he invented the myth of Ancient Egypt. This is essentially the begging of the "out of Africa" doctrine. Centuries latter, very busy French, English and German bees worked very hard to incarnate this myth into physical reality.
