  1. The USSR did not "collapse", Brian, it was "collapsed" on purpose. Gorbachov dissolved the COMECON which forced the Warsaw Pact to trade in US Dollars. This in turn put the USSR in a tight spot, having to pay in US Dollars it did not have. This wasn't a "mistake" or a "US victory in Afghanistan" as the US Media likes to portray it. So the "Extending Russia" paper is using a false premise and not revealing the true purpose of this futile aggression.

  5.  @jay90374  You are still going with the "breadlines" nonsense? I lined up at 8am as a kid in Bulgaria to get the freshest bread you can imagine, by 2pm it was usually all gone. It was the most basic products only available at the shops, but this does not constitute a "collapse". Furthermore, the British milked the USSR for "Reparations" via their US colony - the "Lendlease" creative accounting. The USSR in turn put up a - "we spend on defence" cover story for this Western daylight robbery and the austerity.
