Have a read through article 47 before you cite it because it literally describes them. Here: Protocol I Additional to the Geneva Conventions relating to the Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflict (1977), article 47 Article 47 of Additional Protocol I provides a definition of a mercenary. "A mercenary is any person who: Is specially recruited locally or abroad in order to fight in an armed conflict; Does, in fact, take a direct part in hostilities; Is motivated to take part in the hostilities essentially by the desire for private gain and, in fact, is promised, by or on behalf of a Party to the conflict, material compensation substantially in excess of that promised or paid to combatants of similar ranks and functions in the armed forces of that Party; Is neither a national of a Party to the conflict nor a resident of territory controlled by a Party to the conflict; Is not a member of the armed forces of a Party to the conflict; and Has not been sent by a State which is not a Party to the conflict on official duty as a member of its armed forces.

Tell me you are a mercenary without telling me you are a mercenary. What "similar ranks and functions" are we talking here?! That is pretty much an undefined and open to a wide interpretation, statement. Having a back door to get out on a minor technicality is not exactly Ethics par excellence. It makes the entire definition pointless. The other thing to note - the LDPRs are not parties to the Anglo-American "UN" NGO contracts. So they don't have obligations. Russia hasn't sentenced anybody yet. The illegal seizure of Russian property makes any contracts with the Anglo-American "UN" NGO, null and void to be honest.

When Zelenski the "pacifist platform" president visited Donbas a year or so ago, and told Azov to start complying with the Minsk Accords and withdraw from Donbas, they laughed at his face on camera. The objective is to demilitarise Ukraine not to capture Kiev right away. "Let me remind you that Ukraine is losing in eastern Ukraine for the same reason Russia lost in northern Ukraine, supply lines. Russia is attacking eastern Ukraine successfully because that's the only region that they CAN attack successfully, because it's close to their supply lines." LOL, you can't be serious. Kiev and Harkov are a stone throw away from Russia and Belarus. What "supply lines" are missing? They literally held exercises there a few months before that. The Junta is on its last legs. The way Lisichnask fell is a good indicator of how the operations will proceed from now on.

Rail is just a transport of convenience. Both sides use roads to resupply, extensively. "How is Donbas a bigger problem than Kyiv ? Donbas already has a lot of Russian support, if Kyiv fell, Donbas would just willingly surrender." Have you seen the fortifications in Donbas? We are talking hundreds of kilometres of trenches, bunkers and hardened facilities. Kiev is a soft target. It will flop like Lindsey Graham on a bad day.

@scofield1154 The one thing that I agree with you - taking the area around Kiev was a waste of time. But they allegedly had intel that Kiev is ready to flop on its own. I guess the Junta took a whiff and killed it in advance. There is no holding control now, however. Not after what the Junta put the country through. The Junta itself will want to evaporate with the stolen billions. When Odessa is about to fall there will be jets flying Kiev to Switzerland, Kiev to UK, Kiev to USA and even Kiev to Israel, like the world is about to end. Not so much because of the Russians, but because of the creditors. They will want their blood money back and the Junta is not going to hang around for that.
