  1. They jumped to protect the GILTs not the exchange rate. The exchange rate is meaningless since the US dollar is an extension of the UK pound. It only reflects which department of the Empire is printing at a higher rate at the moment. It doesn't measure the real inflation. The reason why they jumped to protect the GILTs is obvious - they traditionally finance the government at an inflation loss for the investor and the charade of them being "reliable" needs to be maintained. It is no surprise that the pension fund scammers pay protection money to the government in the form of buying GILTs.
