  3. "Exaggerating the importance of death" in Russian propaganda. I was talking to my brother, who speaks a little Russian (more than), and had a business dealing with Russians until - unwilling to bribe and menace - he realized he could never succeed with the business. I was talking to him about how the climate in Moscow and most of Russia - frigid - probably explains their monstrous personalities and inhumanity, and he said something interesting. He said Russians have a very "village mentality", and not a good village. A village of mean desires and unworthy aims, full of bitter jealousy and mutual hatred. I was shocked to see that Kiev is at latitude 50 degrees, 10 degrees farther north than New York City, and Moscow is even farther north at 55 degrees. No wonder it snowed in Moscow on "Victory (thanks to the USA, whom they hate) Day." In the Russian village occupying one sixth of the earth's land mass, all hold all others in laughable, un-self aware contempt. A village where all residents despise each other and are constantly trying to cheat, and shiv, and backbite and one up each other. It's the way they've been for over 1000 years, it's broad-based and pervasive, and it will never change. It's why raw, barbaric, unjudicious power is the only currency. They hate themselves in their remote solitude, and so hate all others, and can tell themselves any appalling lie to convince themselves of their non-existent "superiority", and exhaust incredible amounts of energy in trying. Sounded right to me. If the USA is the "indispensable nation", and it is, then Russia has made itself the "expendable nation", and in a big, irreversible way. You can see it in their elevation of barbaric massacre without apology to a national credo. They have no hope of actual civilization, know it, and so have abandoned the idea. Their model is the suave serial killer and terrorist bent on mass killing. Hannibal Lector and Carlos the Jackal - so admirable. And you can really hear that in Putin's saying, to the effect, "What good is the world without Russia in it?" The world would actually be so, SO much better without Russia in it.
