Jake, for nearly thirty years I'd heard that the reason Israel threw the doors open to Russian Jewish immigrants was because it knew its demographic time bomb was ticking regarding keeping the state's Jewish identity because of its explosive Arab Israeli birth rate, and sought to recalibrate the numbers on that by bringing in typically utterly secular Russian Jews. Anything to that?
