You take any infant or toddler away from their parents, and that child is going to have serious emotional/mental problems. The optics on this are BAD and even if children have been separated from parents in the recent past, I don't think it was quite on this level. The families don't HAVE to be separated. They could keep them together while determining if they will be allowed to stay, and release them together if not. Attorney General Sessions is behind this. He has a very punitive personality and it's not helping Trump.
