  2. Have actually seen this cognitive dissonance online. An Iranian woman claimed the Orlando nightclub shooting happened because the Muslim shooter had somehow absorbed Christian fundamentalist hatred of gays because he lived in the U.S. She said this while the victim's bodies were still cold and there was no evidence yet. A while later, she commented on an article about westerners traveling to Middle Eastern countries, and said she assumed everyone would know not to be "out" as a gay person when traveling there. The dissonance is mind boggling.
