The EU set a 38% tariff on Chinese cars, so they've a tariffs too. They are in the EU single market and the EU sets the tariffs.

@seye46 We do have tariffs on Chinese goods in the EU. The fact the US will stay ahead is ASML chip technology from the Netherlands. Only the EU and the US can make the latest computer chips. That could change if Trump goes tariff hunting with Europe. Let's say China makes Russia pull out of Ukraine. Trump is no help here. You guys want Taiwan and we Ukraine. Plus we give you ASML chip technology. We used to sell those to China before the war, but you would have to drop Russia.

@D4vidko Only China has the raw materials to make batteries. We all need China for the batteries. Elon Musk does the same. Those batteries go into a Mercedes or Tesla. That's not gonna be put on the tariff list by Trump or the EU. Certainly not with Elon Musk on Trump his side. 23% of Musk his whole Tesla business is selling Tesla's in China and is totally dependent on China's batteries. China would be smart to open diplomacy more with the EU now. Europe is not gonna be happy about the US and ASML in the Netherlands has the chip technology China needs. China would have turn on Russia of course.

It's not the US that is ahead of China on chip technology, it's the Netherlands in Europe. He better not make peace with Russia if he wants to keep ASML from selling to China.

They can't without ASML chip machines from the Netherlands, who sell only to the US. They are 10 years to 15 years behind on chip technology. The Netherlands is actually the most important nation for the tech industry. If they would change course to China the US would be left in the dust by China. Biden made sure that ASML chip machines only got sold to the US with his chips act by calling PM Rutte in the Netherlands. The same Prime Minister is now secretary general of NATO. That's why he's probably made secretary general. If Trump wants a technology edge on China, he can't make peace with Russia. A brilliant move from Biden and Europe.
