They should be thanking the government for years of free diesel. Agriculture is the most subsidized out of everything.

Exactly!!! You do realize farmers get free money in diesel subsidies? Agriculture has the highest subsidies in Germany compared to everything else. They should be thanking the government. Now it's time to pay the government back with farming on electricity instead of diesel.

@jerrygudknecht6066 Germany imports diesel. You just choked on your own theory. Less diesel use, less import! The whole point on why government cuts those subsidies. Sri Lanka is a dead broke country. They aren't farming because they have no alternatives. Germany will just move to green farming and they get subsidies for that. You can't compare Germany to Sri Lanka. We are talking one of the richest countries against the poorest. They barely have fuel in Sri Lanka. They are doing blackouts to save fuel there. They stormed the house of the president in Sri Lanka because it was the only one with power.

You can farm with electric vehicles though. You can farm without diesel at all. Which is paid by diesel subsidies. Which is free money they got from the government. Put that money in clean farming instead. Seems perfectly normal to me.

Farmers want to compete on the world market in Germany by paid government subsidies. That's not competing/capitalism, that is communism.

@jerrygudknecht6066 Not if you spend it on diesel you don't. For our vegetables and fruit you can easily produce enough volume. The rest is the problem. Out of the electricity socket where you can plug in.

@jerrygudknecht6066 Who says it has to be green? You can put the money we subsidize diesel with into windmills. This is exactly why we don't have more green energy when you subsidize fossil fuels. Let's not get fossil fuels from the OPEC countries that set prices extra high for us. You do realize that we are paying 4× the actual cost of fossil fuels because of the Saudi Arabia's of this world. You're basically subsidizing Saudi Arabia.

@jerrygudknecht6066 Farming with tractors is a thing of the past. New kind of farming requires hydro and vertical farms. You don't even need a farmfield. That's where they should subsidize now. Small farms only exist because they are subsidized on almost everything. There's no market value to these farms. Every farmer who grows anything that can be made in a hydro or vertical farm should be denied any subsidizing. The rest should sell to a owner who can make a profit. This charity needs to stop. You can build a vertical farm or hydro farm anywhere. It's healthier food, it's grows faster and can be build right next to a grocery store. It's also weather resistant. No more pesticides. No more bad yields in farming. It's a absolute no brainer. I suggest you look into hydro and vertical farming. It's pretty good nowadays. The investment is the downside and you still need power for the LED grow lights. You also aren't confined to a country. You can just build a hydrofarm in Saudi Arabia and not transport it there. That's where i want my tax money to go, not to give farmers free diesel to poison the groundwater with pesticides.

@Thankyouforevrything You're both wrong and right at the same time. My father had a 1000 bonsai trees we had to take care off. I also served in the Dutch army, so i did get payed by the government too.

@jimmydykes7961 Fish are a great breeding ground to grow crops. Hydrofarmers use this method all the time.
