The problem with unstable countries is that nobody is gonna invest. A coup is a good way to lose investments. Russia is a country that never invests, so the won't be of any help. If you want to be a developed country you need the technology of western countries. To get that you need to be a stable country. Private companies are not putting a factory in your country when things like this happen. That's like flushing money down the toilet.

@MB2.0 Because colonialism ended from mid 18th and 19th century. The industrial revolution started at the end of 17th to mid 18th century. That is why South Africa is most developed of all the African countries. They were one of the last. Ukraine was under control(colonialism) of Russia until 1991. Much later. South Africa has more than double the GDP of Ukraine by the way.
