The American Petroleum Institute and other trade groups have submitted amicus briefs siding with industry. Justice Coney Barrett’s father’s career as a top lawyer for Shell Oil Company merit her recusal. In fact, based on his role in offshore drilling and senior role at the American Petroleum Institute, this litigation could likely lead to his deposition. He also faces reputational risk.
