  1. My favorite era of Mercedes. Pure "thunk" when closing anything. Analog everything and to the point. The 300E was a car that had "enough power" and communicated prestige low key. The 300E is like that 635 coupe tested a year or two ago. Both are "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis or Beethoven's 3rd Symphony. The height of elegance and sophistication. The E500 is what happens if you insist that AC/DC clean up and put on Savile Row custom suits. Same basic car, but The E 500 is pure adrenaline like "Thunderstruck." You get out of The E 500 and the soundtrack is the guitar feedback opening of "Voodoo Child" by Jimi Hendrix.
