  1. This is the Mercedes time period that I grew up with and adore. Doors and trunk lids that went "Thunk." Overengineered and built like a tank. Elegant and simple. Nothing for show. The car itself was proof that you had style and prestige. If a base SEL was "Kind of Blue" style of sophisticated and accessible, then this AMG is a CEO in a suit who occasionally switched up Jazz for Motorhead.
