Stop acquiring useless junk is the best way to tidying up. And it's inspiring to live more with less.

Here's my method. It works better for me than the lady's -- step 1: stop acquiring useless junk to begin with step 2: for existing junk, find friends and family who can use it (but not pushing) step 3: if no one can use it, sell it on Ebay and make money step 4: if it doesn't sell on Ebay, donate to Good Will to help others step 5: throw away

You are right that I didn't read her book. As to friends and family, I came from a frugal family where throwing away perfectly usable things is a bigger sin than pushing them to others. But I get your/her point. Living a simple life myself, one of my secret pleasures comes from throwing away things that have been fully utilized with no residual value. Thanks for your comment.

Agree. For example I don't tidy up in 1 shot as the lady said. I do the opposite. I make it a habit to tidy up things when I see them. (socks on the floor, books on the bed, etc.) This way my place is always clean instead of clean-dirty-clean cycle. To do this, it's important to have a mental system of what goes where. Also, I can't just keep things that "spark joy"; I hate my old tax files but I have to keep them for record.
