  1.  @qetoun  It was initially under Harold MacMillan - Dr Beeching was appointed chairman of the British Railways Board. He closed many stations and proposed 6,000 miles of track to be eliminated. When Labour came into power, Wilson continued with Beeching's plans, despite promising to cancel major closures.
