You know, all of this would be great criticism if the point of the movie is to be a documentary. It is not. It's a story about a guy who is treated poorly in society because of his origin, and he learnt that it's what he is on the inside that matters. Whether the story is set in Iraq, Turkey, India, doesn't really matter that much. You can't be anti something if you don't really care about it. Can the story be changed to another setting and still have the same impact? Yes. Mythology regarding wishes and a mythical being who grants wishes are not exclusive to any culture.
