If cloning a dog was so difficult and the fact that he successfully cloned a dog, wouldn't it be proof of his ability? It might have been fraud, but maybe it's the kind of fraud that isn't a total fraud. If his lab came way ahead than anybody else in cloning mammals, wasn't he the best shot for actually cloning humans?

The problem with Mr Schon is that he's a bad con man. He's not as smart as he think he is. Had he not went crazy with these once in a lifetime invention every month, nobody would've paid any extra attention to him. He could've taken the position at Bell Labs for a few years without making a big fuss, pivot it to a Professorship at Princeton or Harvard and live happily ever after. When you do a con, you have to minimize the risk, exposing it to too many people exponentially increase the risk. He was an amateur. You have to do it from the ground up

Denoting Hans Bethe as just a relative from Cornell is absurd. Hans Bethe is the physicist in charge of theoretical calculation at Los Alamos during the time of invention of the atomic bomb and a Nobel Laureate for his work in hot nuclear fusion.

@finwefingolfin7113 Buddy, that's not how scientific research works Scientist don't just work on one single paper in a project at a time. At the time of Schon publication, Bao, Kloc and evnen Battlog were doing their own things, they have their jobs and their own projects, it's just that among their projects, there's the collaboration with Schon. That's why Schon is the main author of the paper. Kloc and Bao provided samples, not samples grown because of the project that requires tremendous work, they provide samples that Schon ask them to provide accordingly. Battlog is a supervising to an entire division with multiple scientists, not just Schon. When you have an actual scientific job, you'll start realizing how you don't have enough time to pay great attention to every single project, because it's impossible, both time wise and expertise wise. And it's not breakthrough science, that's a meaningless term, what Schon did was claiming breakthrough discovery, meaning discovering and seeing stuff that is already there but was never observed before due to lack of research. That doesn't require much funding, the crystals are grown by Kloc or Bao, what Schon did was doing the measurements.

You must be a really bad scientist. There's a thing called proprietary technology, proprietary invention, in short term, it's called know-how. If the thing you do can be done by just anybody, it's not really a remarkable thing at all. It shouldn't have to be independently reproducible, but it has to be proven, that's the point.

@cewla3348 If people can just reproduce the results of TSMC, there wouldn't be a trade war going on. It's proprietary technology, it's their know how, they can prove that they did it, but you can't easily reproduce it. Go study some math.

@guy-sl3kr Um, no they do, buddy. Except for the peace, literature and economics, the Physics, Chemistry and Physiology Nobel prize do recognize the pinnacle of human achievement in basic science. The problem is that there are countless pinnacle achievements in multiple sub-field of thos gigantic fields, therefore sometimes there are more achievements then there are prizes. You're taking the extreme worst cases of the prize to act as if it represents the entirety of the prize, which indicates shallow mathematics understanding. Please show some respect. Nobody stated as if this prize covers everything, but it is the most prestigious prize because the quality is generally very high over 100 years and the money is substantia.

Remember people, the accomplishment of the Large Hadron Collider should've been done in the 1990s with this collider. Solving the mystery of the Universe just doesn't sounds as sexy as building overpriced aircrafts.
