Quick reminder, it's not a key city just because they claim it's a key city. There's nothing key about that city, it's one of the closest city to the front and Russian troops are spread very thin. They can keep it but what for? That city serves only the purpose of creating a defense for the much much bigger cities down south near the coast. And soon, that won't be necessary. Those 4 regions are officially of Russia, attacking them means attacking the Russian Republic, soon Russia will not be deploying "men" to defend those cities, it's much easier to take out the head of the opponents, civilians casualties will be huge but they asked for it themselves.

@jrd33 Well, of course they can't hold it, they're outnumbered significantly. They can try to slow the Ukrainian offense down as much as they can while they're preparing a governance system back in the actual key cities of a few million people. Don't you get it? Those cities of those regions are of Russia now. Not as under Russian control, but they're officially a part of Russian Republic. People with Russian Passport, Russian nationalities. You think Russia is going to use traditional soldiers to keep those places? No, darling, they will ask for Ukraine immediate surrender or else, very quick ending to the war. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, America did not retake Pearl Harbor and then stop. Ukraine attack those direct cities which belong to Russia, Ukraine will be erased from the map of the world.

@wwhb4780 "Are said" to have , that's where you fail. A lot of this are Western speculation, really bad speculation really. None of you Westerners even remotely predict the purpose of the war. The war is over, about to be eventually. There's nothing valuable to be taken at Ukraine anymore, maybe Odessa, but that's not necessary. 75% of Ukraine coastline are lost and you're never getting it back.
