Yes, Israel is an important ally, but what they're doing to the Palestinian people is a horrible crime, and it's totally not necessary. Are they also committing heinous crimes under international law, also yes. It's not in America's best interests to support the crime of Israel, that's for sure. But in the Vietnam case, only one side can claim legitimacy because only one side stood up for their independence. Korea was never colonized by either the Americans or the Soviets or the Chinese. But Vietnam was colonized by the French, which makes whatever government the French set up becomes absolutely illegitimate in the eyes of the people.
