  1. The rocks NASA has custody of does not include the rock samples given to the leaders of (most? all?) countries and the individual States of the country. So you could have seen one of the State-gift rocks.

  2. Given the weak and nodal magnetic fields of the moon, they would have had to just lay down a virtual grid with a pre-defined "north".
