  1. I remember from being in the military that the armored vehicles tracked engine hours instead of miles, but the trucks and jeeps (yeah, that long ago) tracked miles. Farming and construction machinery also tracks engine hours, which makes a lot of sense. An excavator may travel 1/2 a mile in 8 hours of high RPM work load, and non-wheeled cranes move not at all during operation.
