  1. A long time ago I had a 1974 VW Beetle with the hydrostatic transmission. My mother borrowed the car one day and when she returned she stomped in, angry at me because she "almost got stranded because my car's transmission was failing." I took the car and drove for about 20 minutes, no problems, even up and down steep roads. So I made my mother drive while I sat in the passenger seat, and figured out the car's problem before she left the driveway. - My mother drove a standard, and drove with hand resting on the shifter. But in a hydrostatic transmission, any force you applied to the shifted made it go out of gear. - So yeah... Use it like the person with the complaint uses it, not "the right way".

  2. Also? Those tires look to be somewhere in whispering distance of being too worn (using the 2/32" of tread standard). At least the fronts do.
