  1. I've never had "space food" other than Tang way back in the 1970's. Eating the space ice cream sandwich sounds a lot like one of my favorite MRE items, the "Dehydrated Pork Patty" (Not for in-flight/pre-flight use). Nobody else in my unit would even open those, so I often had a pocket full of them to snack on whenever I got peckish. Open the bag, pour in JUST enough water to moisten the surface, sprinkle on the salt and ketchup powder, and YUM! - I was also the kid who could eat free in school on just the stuff other kids turned their noses up at. Slightly mushy green beans? crunchy square of pizza? squash? Gimme!!!
