  1. A magnetic linear accelerator system (like a roller coaster, maglev train of EMALS aircraft carrier launching system) on the slope of a tall mountain would be a better idea (in my estimation). You would still need chemical booster stages, but you could drastically increase your starting velocity/momentum for the rocket equation.
