  1. Given that modern launches and re-entries are computer controlled, that is a bad standard. I can see the standard being more in line with training for, and being paid for the job and having/using the skills to "do astronauting" if needed, such as in the event of a computer failure.

  2. I have flown across the country in a large jet. But I was not a pilot, just a passenger. I kind of like the distinction being whether a person is trained and paid to be on the craft, or pays (or is granted a favor) to be there.
