  1. When we lived in Phoenix AZ, nearly every home had a swamp cooler as the main cooling device for the house. It added needed humidity to the air in the home. As Phoenix has gotten more and more pools and grass-covered yards, the typical humidity in the air has risen, and reduced (to some degree) the efficacy of swamp coolers.
